Password-protected Airtable backups.
Export to Excel for everyday work. When you need to protect an archive, enable optional AES-256 encryption with a master password through Solid Backup’s 7-Zip integration.
Optional AES-256 encryption for your archives
Create a password-protected Airtable backup archive with Solid Backup’s optional AES-256 encryption via 7-Zip. Use a master password to protect the archived copy you keep on your computer or move to another storage location.
Your data is downloaded directly from Airtable to your computer, without intermediate Solid Backup cloud storage. Archive encryption adds optional password protection to that local workflow.
Encryption is optional. You can still export Airtable to readable Excel, CSV and JSON files without turning it on. Local downloading and archive encryption are separate choices: where a file is stored does not automatically determine whether it is encrypted.
Create a protected Airtable archive
- Choose your data and destination. Create an export or backup plan in Solid Backup. Include the attachment files you need to preserve.
- Enable archive encryption. Configure the optional password protection and choose a strong, unique master password.
- Keep the password separately. Save it in a password manager or another protected location, rather than beside the archive.
- Test the archive. After the run completes, confirm that your archive tool asks for the password and that you can extract and open a sample of your files.
Plan who will need the password in a recovery situation. Do not rely on being able to recover a forgotten password. Keep another copy of important archives in a location appropriate for your organization.
An encrypted archive and an Excel password are different
Solid Backup’s archive encryption protects the contents inside the encrypted archive. It is not a claim that each .xlsx file has Excel’s built-in workbook encryption enabled.
When you extract the archive to work with a spreadsheet, the extracted file is outside that archive’s protection. Store working copies in an appropriate location, control access to the computer, and remove temporary copies when they are no longer needed.
Encryption also does not prevent accidental deletion or drive failure. Combine it with a local backup routine, checks of completed runs and a recovery test.
Encryption questions
Is encryption required for Excel exports?
No. Keep it off when your workflow needs direct access to exported files, or enable it when the archive needs password protection.
Does Solid Backup upload archives for encryption?
No. The desktop app downloads your Airtable data to your computer and uses its 7-Zip integration for archive encryption. Solid Backup does not store your exported data on its own cloud servers.
Does this change my Airtable security settings?
No. Archive encryption protects your exported copy. Continue to manage Airtable access and permissions separately.
